We Warned You: Democrats Seek Tax Hikes Across the Board

House Democrats have lots of potential targets for higher taxes as they aim to expand health care coverage to reach the roughly 50 million that experts say are uninsured.

Under consideration are higher alcohol taxes, increases to the Medicare payroll tax and a value-added tax, a sort of national sales tax, of up to 1.5 percent or more.

A tax war of choice?

Democrat tax options include:

• Increasing the price of soda and other sugary drinks by 10 cents a can.

• Applying a potential 2 percent income tax increase to single taxpayers earning more than $200,000 a year and households earning more than $250,000.

• A new employer payroll tax could target 3 percent of employers' health care expenditures.

• Taxing employer-provided health insurance benefits above certain levels -- a less likely option but one that still is in the running.

Could it be That Obama is Nothing More Than a Chicagoland Criminal?

It is oft said, if you want to get to the truth, follow the money.

So, when President Barack Obama starts removing Inspectors General, you have to wonder just what is going on.

Could it be that all of the posing, the posturing, the bailouts, the stimulus, the huge budget, the even larger unemployment numbers, and finally health care reform, are nothing more than part of a grand mechanism for some Democrat politicians to use to get rich?

With no accountability, it would be pretty easy to rob the Treasury blind.

It's not like there isn't a history of folks currently serving in the Obama administration using government-run institutions to pad their wallets....

It's something to think about.

Obama Attacks Fox News (Again)

President Obama is Annoyed that One News Outlet is Still Doing Its Job....

You just can't be loved and worshiped by everybody, but if you're President Barack Obama and it concerns the media, you can come awfully darn close.

In an interview on CNBC's June 16 "Closing Bell" with correspondent John Harwood, Obama mused on the media coverage he has received to date. Harwood asked the president to respond to the claim that lack of media criticism has allowed him to "hurt" the country.

"When you and I spoke in January, you said, I observed that you haven't gotten much bad press," Harwood said. "You said, ‘It's coming.' Media critics would say not only has it not come, but that you've gotten such favorable press either because of bias or because you're good box office that it's hurting the country because you're not sufficiently being held accountable for your policies. Assess that."

Obama dismissed that assertion and claimed one station was devoted to "attacking" the Obama administration:

"It's very hard for me to swallow that one," Obama said. "First of all, I've got one television station that is entirely devoted to attacking my administration," he added, chuckling.

"I assume you're talking about Fox," Harwood replied.

"Well, that's a pretty big megaphone and you'd be hard-pressed if you watched the entire day to find a positive story about me on that front," Obama said.

I guess that's what you would call a first class flight -- a bit more than the $236 economy deal I got last month. (It's the economy class, stupid.)

Sen. John S. McCain in the Hanoi Hilton. McCain fractured both arms and a leg ejecting from the aircraft, and nearly drowned when he parachuted into Truc Bach Lake. Some North Vietnamese pulled him ashore, then others crushed his shoulder with a rifle butt and bayoneted him. Although McCain was badly wounded, his captors refused to treat his injuries, beating and interrogating him to get information; he was given medical care only when the North Vietnamese discovered that his father was a top admiral.
